Apr 28th/29th: Community Paddle and Volunteer Opportunities

Join fellow river enthusiasts to explore a beautiful section of the Lamoille River – and help restore habitat on McCuin Island.

Friday, April 28th (1:00-4:30 PM): Help plant willow and dogwood on McCuin Island, restoring native plants following a Japanese Knotweed eradication effort. This will involve paddling upstream from an informal launch (1/4 mile, through moderate current) and hammering in 1-2 ft “live stakes” into the soil.

Saturday, April 29th (8:45 AM-12:30 PM): Join a five mile community paddle from bellow Cadys Falls to Johnson through the scenic 10 Bends section! The river here is a mix of swift calm water and riffles. Spring sites and sounds should abound! We’ll stop at McCuin Island for a snack break, to learn about the restoration effort and what makes the island special, and to complete the willow and dogwood plantings before paddling on to a take-out at Waterman Brook where we’ll shuttle car drivers back to the put-in.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, April 26th to noah@vermontriverconservancy.org.

Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm for the Lamoille River!

This project is supported by an Education and Outreach Grant from the Lake Champlain Basin Program.
